Terry Neumyer
I am a retired teacher of Chemistry, Physics, Biology, and Ecology, having taught 37 years.
As a member of the National Audubon since 1980s, I have served as President of the Appalachian Audubon Society (AAS) in 2001-2002, and as program chairman for 10 years. I also have lead several birding field trips for AAS. The club’s favorite is the weekend trip to Cape May, NJ in May for Red Knots and Warblers.
As a member of the Wetlands Institute of Stone Harbor, NJ, I have been docent for many summers. I have served as announcer on the intercoastal birdwatching boat, The Crusin-1. I have led the bird walk on Sunday mornings at the Institute for several summers. I have been the astronomy leader on the Friday evening beach and astronomy walk. I have led many marsh walks at the Institute.
As a member of the Cape May Bird Observatory, CMBO, I have assisted in the Beginning Birder classes and the bird walks that are offered by the CMBO organization. Some of my photographs were used in this beginners birding class taught by Fred Meers.
I was employed for several summers by the NJ Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Division of Fish and Wildlife to do Point Surveys, specifically looking for birds of concern, threatened birds, and endangered wildlife and birds. In this study, I was lucky enough to locate 53 individual birds that fit the three criteria. DEP of NJ will now enter the spots where they were spotted into the top priority list for protection. I was also hired by the New Jersey Fish and Wildlife Department to do a wildlife inventory of Peasley Wildlife Management Area. This 85 000 acre Wildlife Management area, part of the Pine Barrens now known as the Pinelands, has many different habitats and a great variety of wildlife.
I have been an assistant instructor of Photography for the Elderhostel at The Geneva Point Ecumenical Center in Moultonboro, New Hampshire. I also organized and was head instructor of Elderhostel programs called, “Beginning Birding”, ”Natural History of New England”, and “Natural History for the Geneva Point Center”.
As lead instructor at a week long camp in Florida, I taught Birding and lead field trips throughout central Florida for the United Methodist Church at the Life Enrichment Center near Leesburg, Lake County, Florida.
