Dale Rupert –
In 2006, Dale took a 4-week Birding by Ear course at the Bent of the River Audubon Center in Southbury, CT where he lived. It changed his perspective on birding. It was a life-expanding experience.
The instructor gave everyone CDs containing numbered bird songs. Before each Saturday morning class, the students were instructed to listen to and study 15 birds each week. The instructor knew which birds (migrants and locals) would be out and around the nature center in each particular week. After 4 weeks, the class had been able to locate and identify most of the 60 birds on the list. She was an incredibly good instructor.
Dale has no qualms about sounding silly when he blurts out some of the crazy mnemonics for various bird songs on the bird walks that he participates in. Dale assures me that each of you will have a chance to sound just as silly when we get to the ‘Bird Song Sing-Along’ part of his program.
Dale says he assumes that many of you may already know almost everything he’s about to discuss, but he assures me that he hopes everyone will come away with a new perspective or a revived interest in Birding by Ear. And you just may hear something you’ve never heard before.
